'99 BR Navigation lights rocker switch

PostPosted by Myrtle Grove Bob » Fri Aug 18, 2017 1:11 pm

I need to replace this switch. It is clearly marked "CarlingSwitch" 9903 Mexico. VJDA .... Its a two way switch - Press the bottom down for the anchor light - Press the top down and the bow light and the anchor light are on. Indicator lights on the switch let you know what light are on. I searched the internet with no success.

VJDA describes the switch basics: V - Contura V series; J - double pole; D - 20A rating; A - .250 blade connection.

Navigational light switches can be either SPDT or DPDT switches. The number of poles determines the method of wiring the switch. A SPDT switch uses a diode in a jumper wire, easily seen in the wiring behind the switch, to direct current in only one direction. A DPDT switch only requires a plain jumper between two contacts on the second pole's contacts. The diagram in post #2 in this THT thread has a good diagram of how each type is wired, and apparently was originally provided by one of our (lately absent) members, SeaBob.

My 2002 KW has a SPDT switch with diode. If I ever need to replace it, I will do so with a DPDT type switch just to clean up the look (which no one ever sees).

Ordered and received from Wholesale Marine a Seadog Condura illuminated switch # S-D 420218-1 . Its exactly the same as the original switch. I ordered it instead of the one from Overton's because I was able to get a wireing diagram from Seadog's website. Thanks for the help. Also in an earlier thread I was looking for the Attwood base for this light. It was no longer available through Attwood or anyone else, however a friend was able to repair the original one.
